Interview de l'éco-acteur

Sylvie Jeanmichel, éco-acteur
Sylvie Jeanmichel

Sylvie Jeanmichel, Deputy Director of the Bois le Roi recreational area. A biologist by training, and a professor of natural sciences in her younger years, Sylvie Jeanmichel has led nature workshops at the Bois le Roi recreational area since 1979. She then moved on to a position of responsibility while focused on exploring the components of sustainable development: differentiated management of green spaces, waste sorting, social utilities, etc.

Can you tell us about the caravans of Bois le Roi and the recreational area?

60 km south of Paris, the 15 caravans of the Bois-le Roi recreational area discreetly sit on the edge of the Forest of Fontainebleau. In a clearing, these facilities offer a nature-based destination to the couple, family, or group in a unique accommodation. The site is closed to cars and all activities of the recreational area and the UCPA are within walking distance. Hedges serve as borders for sites, nesting boxes are in the trees, and a common room is available with wood stove: all these details reinforce the kind of nature that we offer.

In addition, the "Django" caravan is designed to accommodate people with reduced mobility: it offers ramp access, lowered height, 3 single beds, parking nearby, and adapted bathroom. This caravan has been awarded the "Tourism and Disability" label for people with a motor or hearing disability.

How are your practices considered eco-tourism ?

The recreational area offers environmental education activities for school children, a nature club during school holidays, natural decor or recycling workshops at Christmas time, and an introductory course to beekeeping. In addition, 73 landscaped acres, including 8 hectares of water, offer multiple sports activities, recreation, and relaxation for the whole family.

You are part of the Biosphere Ecotourism network. Do you have projects or actions that illustrate the activity of this network ?

I work with several partners of the Biosphere Ecotourism network, such as the SPA O in Sermaize, l’ânerie Bacotte, and Oxygène Forme Nature. The network allows that common values are shared, and to work together for the development of eco-tourism in the area.
